April Tag Challenge - Trophy Club

The Parks Department in Trophy Club, TX contacted Funkytown to help with their new 9 hole disc golf course. This week the design was done by Brandon Melton with a little help from me. The little clearing that was required is being done and the baskets will be put in next week.

Trophy Club asked us to help out with their grand opening on April 9th. So on that day we will have our tag challenge at the usual time, 9am. And afterwords,  some of us will stay and help introduce and teach disc golf to the local community who come out for the event.

This is the same weekend as the TitleDISC Open. We really would like to encourage everyone who is not playing that event to come out to the tag challenge. Trophy Club is going to pay the club for our help with the course design and specifically for helping them at this event. So we really need as many of us as possible to stay after the mini for a few hours. We are really not sure how many people will be out for the city event. We may need to put on an impromptu clinic or just chat with the local citizens as they come through and help them understand the game and give them a few pointers. This is a great opportunity for us to significantly add funds to the Course Development Initiative.

This new course was designed to be family friendly but will provide a fun challenge for experienced players. It is located in a 900 acre park on Lake Grapevine. Trophy Club will be putting an additional 18 hole course in at an even more scenic area of the park in about 5 months. They have told us they want this course to be amazing, something that will attract disc golfers from all over DFW to make the trip to Trophy Club.

Trophy Club is north of Fort Worth. Directly east of Roanoke off 114. You can get there from the east or west by taking HWY 114. We took 377 north until we got to 114, then went east a  mile to Trophy Club. The exit off 114 is Trophy Lake Dr. Once you exit go North on Trophy LakeDr for a few blocks and then turn Left (west) on Trophy Club Dr. This road goes on for a mile and a half then you turn Left (North) on Trophy Park Dr. This takes you straight toward Grapevine Lake and dead ends at the park entrance. There  will be signs in the park telling you where to go from the entrance. There is a gate at the entrance of the park that will be open and free on this day only. Normally it will cost $1.

The usual $5 to play applies. 9am. We have some Dynamic Discs merch for a CTP.

If you need more info feel free to call me, take my number down just in case you need directions on the morning of the mini. 817-972-0080. Thanks, David

I updated the directions in the article. Basically you take Trophy Lake North from 114. This dead ends a few blocks into Trophy Club Dr. Take a left and you go 1.5 miles then take a left on Trophy Park Dr. Then its only a few hundred more yards to the entrance.

They are going to use temp baskets (nice Innova with number plates) on Apr 9th. Once we give our feedback they will install the permanent baskets the next week. I asked them to have them setup by 730am that morning in case any of you get there early to play around. I'll be there by 8am. So if you get there super early and find no baskets, dont freak out…

Looking forward to it. I went out and checked out the area…looks like a decent little 9 hole course. I predict that 4 down wins it tomorrow.
