Save Bracketts' Bluff DGC
While at the 2012 World Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina some Funkytown members had the privilege of a once in a lifetime experience. As if the courses and competition of the sanctioned event were not enough to provide us with memories and stories to last for years, what we stumbled into on our last day there was both phenomenal and heart breaking simultaneously. As our time with locals increased so did talk of a private course just north of town followed by what seemed to be a scripted sentiment by all, “You gotta play Bracketts’ Bluff!”. Each evening as our rounds were done and we gathered to discuss our day and plans for the next we began to formulate a plan to visit this “Bracketts course?”
Insert plan. If we don’t make the semi-finals we get up Saturday morning and check this place out. So here it is saturday morning (no semis,uh hum..??) and we find ourselves winding down some back country road on our way to Bracketts’ Bluff. Once on the property we couldn’t believe our eyes, this place was impressive and hospitable to boot. Greeted by three dogs and a couple of friendly fellas ready to showcase this slice of disc golf heaven we felt like kids in a candy store and everything was on the house. From the first hole to the last the fun never stopped and surprises were around every corner. Hanging basket, elevated greens, ski-slope fairways, custom teepads even gnomes and statues cleverly placed throughout adding a nice custom touch. Then about halfway through our disneyland round the man himself, David Brackett joins us for a guided tour of the back nine and so the story begins. For Ten years this guy has put in countless hours and gallons of sweat polishing this gem to find himself now in a fight not against kudzew, briars, floods and poison ivy but the powers that be. Some shady business tactics and politically motivated nonsense threaten the future of this disc golf wonderland which we vowed to do what we could to help stop. The campaign is “Save Bracketts’ Bluff” and the plan is sign this petition. So please take the time to sign and stay tuned as the issue develops. Thanks
