August Bag Tag Challenge (Saddle Hills)
Bag tag time again and Saddle Hills in White settlement is the place, Saturday Aug. 11th 2012.
The new nine will be in play this time, although some changes have been made, it is our hope we can utilize this opportunity to bring it back to its original design that Brandon had in mind at the time of the expansion to eighteen. The last challenge did not feature the new nine due to some common growing pains and disputes between the city and citizens whose homes are adjacent to the park and the baskets had been pulled. As with most issues, some time has passed and the positive impact of increased traffic is being noticed and good things are in store for the course. The mayor himself has requested from his parks board to give more attention to the park and would like to see tournaments held on a regular basis and they in turn have asked us ( The Funkytown Flyers) and I.O.M. Pro shop for some assistance and guidance to help make this happen. Of course we said yes and have set the challenge to be the beginning of this awareness campaign to improve visibility as well as playability to prepare the course for future events. We do have plans to host a non-sanctioned event in the near future once the heat breaks and some course improvements have been addressed. Even as this article was being written we received word on a local group wanting to help with concrete tee-pads and have put them in contact with Brandon Melton (FF’s course development director) and Rich Tharp (Parks director for White Settlement). So please help us help local disc golf and attend the challenge as well as give some feed back to what you would like to see happen out there to make it the best it can be. Also keep in mind our latest initiative, Project Sole shoe drive and bring out any old shoes with you to donate to this worthy cause.
