2014 Tarrant County Ice Bowl: Presented by Funkytown Flyers Disc Golf

February, we debut something new… A taste of the future for Funkytown Flyers Disc Golf and its amazing members. Since the clubs inception, we have remained focused on helping our disc golf community grow and thrive. Grow and thrive it has, and how!!!

As our beloved sport grows, we too should grow.

Starting 2/8/2014, our disc funktions will serve a higher purpose.. BENEVOLENCE!  This month we welcome our new marketing partner, The Tarrant Area Food Bank. Fortunately, the timing for this event could not have been better. Its Ice Bowl season baby !!! So, here we are…. Funkytown’s very own Ice Bowl. In the long standing tradition of the Ice Bowl, participants will be required to bring a minimum donation of 3 non perishable food items.  In conjunction with the food items, Funkytown Flyers Disc Golf is allocating $5.00 of every green fee collected as a donation to the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Also, Funkytown Flyers Disc Golf was recently given a very generous donation of $192.00.  This donation was a product of fundraising efforts from our good friends at Disc Golf Station. Funkytown Flyers Disc Golf has elected to re-purpose these funds to start the Ice Bowl fundraising initiative. Members are also encouraged to help us do more, if they see fit. Three non-perishable items are required to play, MORE THAN THREE ARE CERTAINLY WELCOME!! North central Texas has a long standing tradition of stepping up and getting things done come Ice Bowl season… Lets show them how we do in FUNKYTOWN !!!

Once again, we have partnered with Brandon Melton Design and will make available a truly remarkable, champion caliber disc golf course, The North “Z” DGC.

This month brings us to Fort Worth’s recently retired Z Boaz golf course. This Ralph Plummer course design was a true sign of the era in which it was redesigned. Post WWII America had a hunger for the game of golf, yet course funding was limited. Plummer, being of modest means, took to utilizing what the land provided him in the absence of a large budget. His design philosophy was focused on flow and utilization of natural resources. What resulted was a golf course enjoyed by Fort Worth residents for decades. It was never the best course around,  but it’s reasonably priced greens fees and the generally fun to play nature of its design kept this course busy for generations.  Staying true to Plummers re-design, Brandon Melton has shared with us his vision and produced a truly unique disc golf experience, AGAIN!!

This month, we will be joined by our good friends from Whats Cookin’ Chef and Straight Line Discs. So come hungry, and be prepared to check out SLD’s new product line up for 2014.

Stay tuned for additional details in the coming weeks.

THIS IS A MEMBERS ONLY EVENT. Members green fee’s are $15.00 with a minimum of 3 non-perishable food items. NON-MEMBERS are welcome to join for $25, which includes your greens fee for the day.
